PRESS STATEMENT

Widespread Killings Across Nigeria is Hugely Disturbing; President Buhari, Time to Act is Now!

We note with deep concern for the unity and progress of Nigeria the continous, widespread and seemingly endless gruesome murder of Nigerians and destruction of properties worth billions of naira across the country.

The well coordinated wanton killings that took place on Sunday in Barkin Ladi and other two local government in Plateau State is one that again reiterate the need for not just the rhetorics of “we are on top of the situation” press statements by the government but indeed one that requires a definite solution to put a stop to the carnage that has become a norm.

Reports of the senseless, needless and avoidable killings that wouldn’t stop trickling in have become so scary that Nigerians can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.

While we appreciate our law enforcement agencies for the good works they are doing, we dare say, if this is the best they can offer the country at this time, it is important that the President, as the Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces make reasonable changes in the security leadership and institute a restructuring of the security architecture of the state.

Plateau State carnage by suspected Fulani Herdsmen is a sad incident likewise killings by same group across other parts of the country. Boko Haram insurgents are still threatening in the North East, and a few other regions. We wouldn’t want this go beyond what it is now. President Muhammadu Buhari must deal decisively with this.

We cannot but at this critical stage find means to curtail the excesses of the blood sucking beasts and send them to the background for life. In Nigeria, every life matters and it is imperative for a decisive and swift action plan.

Finally, while PAND expresses our deep condolences to the people of Plateau and indeed all Nigerians, we equally implore great citizens of this country to be law abiding and conduct themselves within the armbit if the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
